Welcome to our ‘Follow the Leader’ series, which profiles the movers and shakers who are making waves across LIMU Nation!
We had a chance to chat with one of the most successful Promoters in LIMU history, Brent Palmer, who has helped hundreds of people go from hopeless to hopeful. Who better to learn from than someone who knows what it’s like to start at the bottom and rise through the ranks? Check out his thoughts on finding success with LIMU.
PLAY TO YOUR STRENGTHS
Before LIMU, I was working in education with multiple jobs as a Principal, Athletic Director and head football coach at our local high school. My wife was a school teacher and as you can imagine I was very busy, working 80 to 90 hours a week. I loved working with the high school kids, seeing them go from scrawny freshmen to skilled seniors, but our finances just weren’t adding up. We were at a place where we had money coming in, but our lifestyle matched our income. There was no money tucked away at the end of the month, so we were living paycheck to paycheck. When we saw the LIMU opportunity, we realized that it was something that could potentially help us on the side and alleviate some of the financial pressure we felt. We could definitely relate to the products, but we were most excited about the possibilities for extra income that LIMU could provide, not just for us but for people we knew. In our first two weeks, we got our initial purchase money back, but it wasn’t until 90 days in that we started helping others. Essentially, we went on a crusade to show other families how to replicate our success with LIMU. Who wouldn’t want to help others change their lives? Eventually, I realized I didn’t have to totally give up teaching and coaching, I just found a new opportunity where I could apply my strengths.
WORK DOESN’T DO ITSELF
Right before I went full-time with LIMU, I was scared. I was about to leave a stable career where I had health insurance, vacation time and retirement. I knew I had job security as long as I didn’t do anything stupid, so I felt like I was leaving that and heading into a world of unknown. But when I met our CEO Gary J. Raser, he helped change my perspective. He wasn’t just the owner of the company; he had been a distributor early in his career, and he was extremely familiar with the industry and had been where I was. In May of 2013, I called him to let him know I was thinking about leaving the school system after over 16 years. He said, “If you’re leaving your career so you can retire, don’t do it—that’ll be the worst mistake you ever make. But if you’re going to go full-time in LIMU and treat it like an actual business, this industry can give you options beyond your wildest imaginations. But you have to work.” That stuck with me. I got up at 6:00 a.m. the next day and got into my new routine. I started with self-development in the morning, and then the gym before I got my day going. As soon as I got dressed for work, it was on for me on a full-time basis. I created a daily to-do list and got myself focused. I’d ask myself, who is Brent Palmer going to reach out to today? Who on the team do I need to contact? I believe you have to lead by example, so that’s what I set out to do, working every day to pay it forward.
DON’T COMPLICATE THE PROCESS
Human instinct likes to get in the way of a good thing. We always want to reinvent something and add our own spin to it, so that’s the hardest thing to guard against. We truly do have all the tools you need to grow this business on your own; you’ve got the LIMU Share App, Back Office and the 4 Bases Method at your disposal. We work with you to show you how to prospect, how to host parties and how to properly close so there’s absolutely no reason to go at this alone and forge your own path. We’ve already figured it out for you, you just have to commit to the process. Remember we’re not selling products, we’re inviting people to come to parties. We promote local events in order to connect with people and share this LIMU opportunity with them in person. When someone asks you what we do, send them our interest-generating videos and invite them to meet at your party for more information. The tools make it easy to prospect when you’re out and about, so you never have to miss an opportunity to connect with a potential recruit. I’m subconsciously interviewing everyone I come into contact with, because you never know where you’ll meet your next prospect. Look for a good outgoing personality and someone who’s willing to put in the work. Maybe it’s your waiter or waitress who works a second job and takes care of their family. Maybe it’s the stock boy at your local grocery store who always takes the time to help you out to your car and have a friendly conversation. You don’t need to recruit a well-known Network Marketer or elite socialite in order to successfully grow your business. All it takes is some dedicated, hard-working, passionate people who take their LIMU business seriously. As long as they have a solid work ethic, they’ll be able to make LIMU work for them.
TIMING IS CRUCIAL
Timing is so important in our industry. It might not be the right time for your prospect to commit to LIMU today, but if you cultivate the relationship, it may be the perfect time six months from now. Or maybe right now is the ideal time for them to take on this new opportunity—you just need hear them out and go from there. But the point is to not give up because you feel like a prospect went cold. This happens when you don’t consistently make an effort to prospect. If you only reach out to a handful of people each month, the pressure to close each of them is greater than if you had been reaching out to a few new people each day. To avoid getting stuck in this “I have to get these people to enroll TODAY” mentality, I set a personal goal for myself to reach out to 3 new people every day. This allows me to take my time with people instead of forcing them into a situation that they won’t do well in. Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket—if someone isn’t ready, you’ll just be wasting their time as well as your own.
MAKE YOUR PASSION WORK FOR YOU
People development is fun for me. I came to LIMU selfishly to drive income and build financial stability for myself, but now the scorecard is the number of people I’ve made an impact on. I ask myself, how many people can we develop that have stopped dreaming and stopped seeing a brighter future? That for me is the most fulfilling thing about LIMU. It’s like taking that freshman player who’s scared to death of you and working with them through sophomore, junior and senior year until they’re ready to graduate. They are thanking you for getting them up at 6:00 a.m. and pushing them when they didn’t know they needed it. I see that a lot here at LIMU; people come here scared of the unknown, but once you start working side by side with them, helping them get their first Experience party set up and guiding them to 2K VIP and beyond, you start to see their fears go away. By the time they hit 20K, their hope meter is through the roof! We live in a world where too many people stop dreaming and hoping, so to see that change firsthand for me is the most fun thing to do with LIMU and Network Marketing.
