Impatience: we’ve all been guilty of experiencing it at one point or another. But before you start blaming yourself for your lack of endurance, take a look around. Have you noticed that the world has become completely conditioned for and fixated on instant gratification? We’ve all developed the ‘Veruca Salt complex’: “I want it NOW!”. Is that how you’re treating your LIMU business? Are you demanding massive results without any sort of delay? Well, guess what? It takes work and all-out massive action.
THE SIRI SOCIETY
In a world that has made virtually anything immediately attainable, and with technology’s constant evolution, it can be hard to remind ourselves that not everything is as instantaneous as our smartphones, tablets and mobile devices. Instant answers by Google, Alexa and Siri have skewed our expectations of business and entrepreneurial success.
The best things in life are more than a click away.
We become easily frustrated whenever we’re forced to wait longer than .38415 of a second for anything. Anxiety starts to set in and we become overwhelmed by an internal sense of urgency, selfishly consumed by our own wants and needs in that present moment. In turn, we disregard everyone and everything else in the process. This type of mentality can and will inevitably stifle your growth.
All this hating on waiting is the result of the digital dopamine we all crave. When our phones buzz, so do we. Companies are capitalizing on that desire by offering same-day delivery services, no-wait taxi options and the ability to stream an entire season of TV shows within seconds. But in the real world—especially the business world—anything truly great takes time. It takes work. It takes consistent daily effort and consistent daily discipline. If it was easy, everyone would have “it”.
“Discipline is the bridge between goals and achievement” – Gary J. Raser
Consider the following scenario. You decide you want to start hitting the gym every day. It’s been quite a while since you last worked out, but you think to yourself, “I was athletic in college, I’ve got this!”. You set your week one goal to lose 10 pounds, since you’re really eager to fit into those old jeans that have been stuffed at the bottom of your closet for years. You plan out your schedule for the week and pick up some fresh workout gear to get you motivated.
Ready to start shedding some pounds, you push yourself hard—really hard—but, no matter how hard you go, the fact remains: it’s still only been a few days and you inevitably fall short of your goal because it was unrealistic from the get. You become completely discouraged and decide to give up altogether, since it’s completely beyond reach in the fanciful timeframe in your head.
Why do we do this to ourselves? We’re so used to things coming easy that we now expect everything to happen in an instant. We set goals that are either lofty or just plain crazy, and then become frustrated when we can’t reach those goals as quickly as we decided in our minds that we needed to. This is a common cycle, but lucky for you there are some ways to avoid falling into this trap.
1. SET REALISTIC GOALS
Don’t let society fool you into thinking everything can be achieved with little to no effort. You’ll never accomplish anything by pushing yourself over the limit and expecting immediate results. If your expectations are too high, there’s no doubt you’re setting yourself up for disappointment, which can hinder your future success.
2. TRUST THE PROCESS
Whether you’re trying to get back into shape or new to entrepreneurship, the process is a critical part of your success. Consider our LIMU Process. We provide the tools you need to succeed, but it’s up to you to utilize them to the best of your ability. By trusting our Process and maintaining a steady pace, you will inevitably come out on top if you stay the course and work the business daily. The formula stays the same, but your effort sets the pace.
3. DON’T LOOK FOR A QUICK FIX
Refer back to the workout example above. Trying to do too much too quickly will usually backfire and cause more harm than good. The same goes for building your business. There is no secret, no silver bullet and no fast track to growth or success; it takes patience, persistence and perseverance. Just remember: NOTHING worthwhile comes easy! Many rise to goodness, but greatness takes time and guts.
4. BUILD LIFETIME VALUE
When you embrace patience and begin to view business as a long-game, you free yourself to make mistakes, learn and grow at a steady pace. Overnight success stories are a myth—it takes commitment, dedication and sacrifice. Don’t be short-sighted when it comes to your professional achievements. Look at the big picture of your career trajectory. Focus on bringing value and nurturing relationships to earn the sale. Under-promise and over-deliver to others and in your own self-talk.
You’re going to be bad before you’re good and good before you’re great—at LIMU and any other endeavor. Every 750K Promoter started as an 0K. They just kept pounding the rock day in and day out. And in this business, if you stay persistent and consistent, and keep chiseling away, eventually it’ll break.
