We’ve put together ten easy ways to work your #TeamLEAN fitness and nutrition goals into your weekend, all while having fun at the same time!
1. Ball So Hard
Hit the courts for a little pick-up game. Grab a friend for a little one-on-one action and a BLU FROG for a wildly healthy, natural pick-me-up. It’ll give you some serious hops!
2. Take it to the Streets
Dust off your board and overcome that downtime boredom. Scenic bike trails aren’t just for the ‘burbs anymore. Urban metroplexes all over the world are embracing cyclists! Traillink and American Trails are both great online resources for finding a fun one near you!
3. Hit Up the Farmers Market
Visiting your local farmers market equals walking and walking *is* exercise. Plus, if grocery shopping is on your list of weekend chores, you can pick up fresh, local produce (and organic wine. It comes from grapes, so it’s technically fruit, right?) at the farmers market perfect for your healthy eating. Farmers markets are also a great place to meet people in your community who may share similar interests.
4. Get Rowdy in the Pool
Swimming is awesome cardio, completely no-impact on your joints, and a calorie-torching total-body workout. It also stretches and lengthens your body—something your body probably doesn’t get enough of. Did you know that water is 724 times more dense than air? That means it provides a constant and consistent resistance that forces your entire body to get involved in creating forward momentum. 5. Run the Town
We know you’re used to running the town at night like the Jay-Z and Rhianna song (while popping bottles of LIMU at your Experience parties, of course), but a quick run around the block during the day could be just the de-stresser you need. 6. Pump it Up
Remember your old friend, “Gym?” You and him go way back, right? But—we get it—it’s been awhile. Going to the gym can be tough during the week. Time constraints prevent us from doing the workout we want. The weekend is the perfect opportunity to lift weights for longer without having to watch the clock. So, go on and get your swole on!
7. Jump Around
Some time after grade school, guys stop jumping rope—unless they grow up to be boxers. But the jump rope may be the most portable and convenient cardio tool available. Relearn how to use it and you’ll be lean, spry, and well conditioned for life! It’s great for your heart, which just so happens to keeps you pumping!
8. Keep Calm & Ommmmmm
On a physical level, yoga helps improve flexibility, strength, balance, and endurance. On an energetic level, yoga teaches you how to cope better with stress by cultivating a sense of ease in both active or passive poses. On a psychological level, yoga helps to cultivate mindfulness by shifting your awareness to the sensations, thoughts, and emotions that accompany a given pose or exercise.
9. Just Dance
Dancing isn’t just about the steps and music. It’s a perfect combination of physical activity, social interaction, and mental stimulation. Dancing enhances your life in so many ways: from its health benefits to improved confidence, it’s a great form of self-expression and just plain fun! When you dance, your cardiovascular system improves, your muscle tone increases and you burn calories. This low-impact aerobic activity also increases flexibility, strength, and balance. Olympic athletes often dance as part of their training to sharpen their control, agility, and speed.
10. Break a Mental Sweat
“Me” time is important. Refocus and re-energize by making time to relax and de-stress from your normal day-to-day responsibilities. Read a book, lay by the pool, scroll through your Twitter feed, or watch a movie. You should use “me” time to focus on the bigger picture and the week ahead so you continue to stay on track with your work responsibilities along with your fitness and nutrition goals.
